Teachers are committed to continuous improvement and professional development.
As a member of the professional organizations TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and WATESOL (the Washington, DC affiliate group), I have attended seminars and workshops that provide support materials and research results. These help me improve as a language teacher.
In my graduate studies I have taken courses in pedagogy, language teaching and learning, educational history and philosophy and practical methods.
During my teacher training I have written many reflective journal entries about my own and others' teaching skills. These journals have been a great way to consider what worked and what didn't from my point of view.
After I write reflections I still read them for insights into how my skills have evolved and to set goals for where they need to progress.
