Teachers continually assess student progress, analyze the results, and adapt instruction to improve student achievement.

I use a variety of assessments in my classes. On a daily basis I ask the students questions about the day's lessons as they exit the class. This shows me informally if parts of the lesson took hold that day.
I correct classwork and go over the predominant errors the next day with the entire class, and then give more reinforcing exercises once they seem to have absorbed the lesson.
I make use of rubrics for bigger projects, with peer evaluation of the drafts and then final evaluation from me. When I correct work I try to give positive feedback. For beginning students I only correct the things we have studied. Otherwise, they get overwhelmed with all the new information they need to know.
